Because of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) along with the other member countries, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam. The public and private sectors in Thailand have been urged to prepare themselves for and seek new opportunities from the upcoming ASEAN integration that will involve the free flow of labor, foreign investment relocation to countries with readily-available resources, and knowledge exchanges in economy and society.

In 2015, the 2nd International Conference: SEPSA2015, we hoped the results of conference were develop the economy and society of the member nations, conferences, which can trade ideas and tools for development, are indispensable to the greater growth of the region, as well as create new means of networking for scholars and businesspeople. SEPSA2016 contributes to researchers, lecturers, academics professional, and graduate students under the umbrella of “Social Enterprise and Sustainability Economy” for strengthening network or cooperation among researchers and organizations for both domestic and oversea contexts.

The 4th SEPSA International Conference 2017 organizes by the Faculty of Management Science, Ubon Ratchatani University in which “The Social and Economic Prospects in Southern Mekong Sub-Region of Southeast Asia 2017 (SEPSA 2017)”. We aim at the significances of business development and management in order to conduct the sustainable business, and increase the competitive potential in AEC market and global market. This International conference contributes to researchers, lecturers, academics professional, and graduate students under the umbrella of “Social Enterprise and Sustainability Economy” for strengthening network or cooperation among researchers and organizations for both domestic and oversea contexts.

The 5th SEPSA International Conference 2018 with the theme “Business and innovation in Digital Era “organized by the Faculty of Management Science, Ubon Ratchathani University. We realized that the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) became the 8th largest economy in the world, GMS is one of the world’s fastest growing market for tourism. The Mekong Delta area is also very attractive for the investment in agriculture since there is less investment in foreign countries than other areas.

Moreover, Number of Japanese and Chinese companies registered in ASEAN continued to increase. It shows that Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand are participating in the supply chain of Japanese companies more and also more in the export of goods to Japan and ASEAN.

However, many SMEs in the GMS still have limited understanding of marketing and export information so they cannot act as a good supplier to foreign investors and take full advantage of the opportunity. Another limitation is the opportunities for SMEs to gain access to technology and innovation to develop the potential of SMEs in the era of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) liberalization

To increase trade, investment and business opportunities for SMEs, there are many things to develop beside the infrastructure and economics corridor especially development of business databases as a business networking platform for SMEs in order to gain access to regional and global markets

In the digital era, the demands for sufficient and effective telecommunication to support economic and social expansion have been increasing where as the entrepreneurs are developing their operations on online platforms to enhance their businesses to the standard required of international markets.

In case of Thailand, we are moving towards the 'Thailand 4.0' era, where industries would rely on digital innovations and online connections. Thailand is trying to promote a network-to-network model within the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), especially in Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. Thai government is also working together on projects proposed for the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). For instance, "Digital Park Thailand" in Si Racha , Chon Buri, which has been developed as a hub of research and development of digital innovations, with the aim of adding value in Thai businesses and industries. The Park will attract digital innovators from around the world to share their experiences and knowledge.

As the international academic conference holder, Faculty of Management Science, Ubon Ratchathani University expect the conference would be the forum for the researchers, scholars and graduate students around the world and particularly from Greater Mekong Sub-Region to exchange their knowledge and research findings not only in business field and innovation but in several related fields in social science to increase and expand the academic knowledge and innovation that will be useful for GMS business and society improvement in the digital era.
